FIX Bridge: scope and deployment

Understand the component, its dependencies and the checks to agree before production.

Connect platform execution to counterparties

A bridge sits between the trading platform and external execution or liquidity systems. Its scope should distinguish price delivery, order routing, execution reports and risk controls. Platform compatibility, authorised APIs and counterparty connectivity must be established before a bridge is selected or configured.

Define routing and symbol rules

Agree instrument names, contract specifications, supported order types, session behaviour and execution mappings. Routing decisions should have a clear owner and documented rules for normal operation, rejection and disconnection. A connection diagram alone cannot establish how orders will behave during an interrupted session or an unavailable provider.

Validate the complete order lifecycle

Acceptance should cover a quote update, an order request, the related execution report and the resulting platform state. Include rejects, cancellations where supported, reconnects and reconciliation. Identify the authoritative record at each stage and the operational logs needed to investigate an execution discrepancy.

Information needed for a project brief

  • Platform and bridge compatibility
  • Counterparty session specifications
  • Instrument and contract mapping
  • Order and routing requirements
  • Connectivity and recovery procedures

What determines the quotation?

Bridge access, provider connections, instrument mappings, hosting and integration testing determine the quotation. External session approvals and provider fees should be listed separately.

Request a written scope with deliverables, exclusions, acceptance checks, one-time costs and recurring charges. Deployment dates and service levels are confirmed for the agreed project.

From requirements to handover

  1. Scope. Review the environment, permitted access and counterparties.
  2. Validate. Agree the configuration and test the specified workflows.
  3. Handover. Confirm acceptance, operational ownership and the support route.
